Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the group access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Seekers and Planners parties.

Fans can expect learning which players will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
