Djokovic Issues Warning to Jannik Sinner: Suspension Will Follow Him Like a "Cloud"

The tennis star has warned Jannik Sinner that his three-month doping suspension will linger over his career as a constant shadow – while also questioning the scheduling of the penalty last year.

The Ban Explained

The Italian player served a three-month suspension in February 2025 after the global anti-doping body approved his account that a prohibited performance-enhancing substance, the steroid clostebol, had entered his system accidentally.

"That cloud will follow him just as the cloud of Covid will follow me, for the remainder of our respective careers," the champion remarked in an interview on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.

"It is a situation where, it was so major, and after such events, with time it may lessen, but I believe it won't fully vanish. There's always going to be a certain group of people that will always try to bring that forward."

The Champion's Viewpoint

Djokovic expressed belief that Sinner, a regular practice partner, "didn't do it on purpose", but he proceeded to question how the Italian managed to complete his ban without sitting out any major tournaments.

"The absence of openness, the inconsistency, the convenience [of] the ban occurring between major events, so he avoids skipping important competitions – it's just it was very, very odd," he further commented.

Wider Player Reactions

"I am dissatisfied with how the situation was managed and it was evident numerous fellow athletes, both male and female, who had comparable circumstances coming out in the media and asserting it represented favorable handling."
